LOCATION: DAYTONA BEACH (VOLUSIA COUNTY)

Job Description:

This position is located within the Division of Blind Services, Business Enterprise Program (BEP) in Daytona Beach. The Food Services Manager and Instructor is responsible for all aspects of managing an operational snack bar providing service to customers. The Food Services Manager and Instructor is also responsible for the instruction of visually impaired Food Service students in basic food service skills including sanitation, customer relations, money handling, food preparation and presentation to include breakfast, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.  Additional emphasis on merchandising, inventory control, time management, customer service and employability skills.

Examples of Work:

  • The incumbent is responsible for all aspects of managing an operational snack bar providing service to customers.
  • The incumbent is also responsible for the instruction of visually impaired Food Service students in basic food service skills including sanitation, customer relations, money handling, food preparation and presentation to include breakfast, salads, sandwiches, entrees, and desserts.
  • Additional emphasis on merchandising, inventory control, time management, customer service and employability skills.
  • Provide set-aside and tax information for Tallahassee.   Prepare weekly bank deposits.
  • Prepare reports as needed.
  • Provide information to the Division of Blind Services personnel on menus, recipes, new equipment, and adaptive devices.
  • Participate in on-going staff development opportunities and maintain current Safe Serve Certification.
  • Implement effective facility monitoring plans to ensure optimal operation of each facility. At minimum, monitoring plans must include a review of financial, compliance, health, and safety and sanitation matters.
  • Utilize collection process to secure all funds owed to the Bureau.
  • The incumbent will keep supervisor informed on ongoing facility inspection issues and provide a plan of action to address any violations. Also, the incumbent is responsible for providing a concise summary of all licensed food service facilities inspections semi-annually.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of equipment, procedures and techniques of cooking, baking and meat cutting and sanitary working conditions.
  • Knowledge of business practices and basic arithmetic.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate work conditions and vending facility operations, utilize problem solving techniques, make verbal presentations and perform calculations.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and instructions.
  • Ability to plan and organize work conditions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Three years of experience in the food service business, at least one of which must have been in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
  • College education from an accredited institution can substitute at the rate of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours for each year of the required nonsupervisory/non-managerial experience.

Preferred Training/Certifications:

  • Serv Safe Certificate
